What Are Office Hours?
Office hours are an invitation-only video call bringing marketing leaders together to connect and learn in a new way. Each virtual event is limited to 10 people and co-lead by the participants. Discussions are planned around topics the group chooses ahead of time, with special guests brought into to provide expert commentary and color to the conversation.
It’s learning, and networking in a whole new way.
Who Can Join?
Office hours are invitation only. Your invitation noted which ‘cohort’ or group you are in.
When Are They?
Typically at 2pm EST on a Tuesday or Thursday. However, not every cohort has a meeting each week. You’ll find the exact dates and times listed on your specific cohort page. Please refer to there for the specifics.
How Do They Work?
Office hours are co-lead. Meaning I’m not the guru, just the glue connecting rad/smart/creative people together. I’ll be the guide for the conversation ensuring it stays moving and adding color when needed. Conversations are focused on the topics each cohort has voted on.
Office Hours are co-lead meaning YOU need to participate. This happens in two specific ways, first is in determining what topics we cover. Each cohort has a page where they can suggest topics and then the group upvotes ideas. We will then use that list and order as a guide to the conversation and whom our special guests will be.
Once we have all joined on to the call I’ll then guide the conversation and let the magic happen. This is not a passive listening session, you will be asked to put in your two cents, share examples you’ve seen, or provide commentary.
Again, I’m not the guru, you were asked to be apart of this group because you have something to add.
Basic rules for the event:
- Office hours are safe spaces, however, you do need to be aware your competition may be in the room. Do not share things that require NDA, and please keep any information disclosed in the meetings to yourself.
- Events are pitch-free. You are not allowed to pitch your service, solution, or software.
- Participation is what makes this work, so, please feel free to chime in with comments, questions, or ideas. If you have an opposing opinion it is okay to share that too, just do so politely.
- Be nice, and come ready to learn.
- Be prepared to show your face. You can turn off the camera after we do introductions.
You’ve Received an Invite Now What?
You’ve been selected to participate, now what? Your invitation noted a specific cohort and provided your password. Each cohort has a password-protected page which you will find located in the drop-down menu of ‘office hours’.
The next step is to go to the cohort-specific page (found under “office hours” in the menu bar of this site) and register for the date/time that works for you. There are typically only three dates/times listed. If none of those work that’s fine there will be others. Just let me know you can’t make those and I’ll let you when more times open up.
Once you’ve registered it’s time to suggest topics you’d like to discuss. You can also upvote other topics you see listed. These topics will be the guide for our conversation. The more input upfront the better the discussion can be as others can know what to prepare for.
After registring you should receive an email confirmation. MAKE SURE TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR! No shows are rude! Rude people are not invited back.
